the power of radio

Around the world, there are numerous examples of how community radio is playing a leading role in community development, political accountability, and disease prevention.
For example, in a study by Save the Children UK on HIV/AIDS prevention in Mali, 47% of the 2,000 interviewed said they learned about AIDS from the radio. Only 24% of those interviewed learned about this disease from their neighbors, and even fewer (5.7%) gained any understanding from formal health service efforts.
The following two case studies illustrate the power of radio in South Africa and Sierra Leone:
Case Study 1: South Africa: Giving Community a Voice at Radio Zibonele
Case Study 2: Sierra Leone: Using Radio to Fight Corruption
