DRP’s partners include both NGOs and journalism training organizations interested in building the capacity of community members and organizations.  As an information resource, we are also listing links to other organizations that offer information on development and communications issues.

On an ongoing basis, DRP seeks to strengthen its relationship with these organizations by working collaboratively with them and by sharing resources to build a common knowledge base and standard of practice within the field of community radio development:

AMARC is an international organization that supports and contributes “to the development of community and participatory radio and the principals of solidarity and international cooperation,” with 3,000 members in 110 countries: http://www.amarc.org/

Communication Initiative provides an excellent online newsletter on development communication issues, The Drum Beat:  http://www.comminit.com/drum_beat_308.html

Communication for Social Change Consortium seeks to increase the capacity of communication specialists, development workers, aid agencies, nonprofit organizations and communities to use communication for social change concepts in order to improve the lives of those who have been long excluded. They offer an online report, Mazi, (‘together’), “on trends and issues in communications for social change.” (www.communicationforsocialchange.org)

For anyone interested in radio, you can hear innovative work of young producers, as well as learn from the most respected producers in radio, including Studs Terkel. Transom.org was created by award winning producer, Jay Allison. (www.transom.org)

The World Bank sees community radio as important to community-directed development and poverty reduction.  Learn more about this by typing in ‘community radio initiative’ in the search box in the upper right hand corner of www.worldbank.org.

Search for Common Groundmission “is to transform the way the world deals with conflict: away from adversarial approaches, toward cooperative solutions. Rare Conservation, a pioneering environmental conservation organization, works globally to equip people in the world’s most threatened natural areas with the tools and motivations they need to care for their natural resources.  Rare believes conservation is a social issue, as much as it is a scientific one.   A lack of alternatives and awareness leads people to live in ways that are harmful to the environment.  For thirty years, Rare has used proven social marketing campaigns, compelling radio soap opera dramas, and economic development solutions to inspire communities to protect their natural environment.  http://www.rareconservation.org

American Public Media produces over 20 national public radio programs and APM producer, Minnesota Public Radio, has hosted visiting radio broadcasters from overseas.  (http://americanpublicmedia.publicradio.org/)
